All about the Jolly Family!

We are a well-established (eighteen years now!), independent nursery and we feel that this makes us quite unique as we strive tocreate a true ‘home-from-home’ for our children and their parents/carers.  We’re not tied to any franchise regulations so we can have great freedom to support our children’s learning, and help them reach their full potential, in our own unique way. We are open from 7.30am until 18.00pm Monday to Friday.

From the moment we walk into our amazing ‘giant house’ we feel like one big Jolly family!  Three of our owners,  Sian, Tracey and James  work at the setting daily (two managing, one cooking delicious meals!). With our owners working alongside our highly experienced, long serving and extremely well-qualified staff team we have a unique passion for our nursery. This is reflected in our commitment to giving every one of our children the very best possible start in life. We find our approach to nursery as a ‘Jolly family’ also inspires our parents/carers to work in extremely close partnership with us.

We are proud of our role within the community as we regularly visit and sing to the residents of Midland House, we consider them fabulous friends and we love the bonding across generations and true sense of community that such experiences provide.

We fully support ‘Woodlesford in Bloom’ and we love the way they make the village so beautiful and a highlight of our (and hopefully their!) summer is singing to the judges as they tour the village each year on judging day.

We also strive to create a true Early Years community as we meet up with local schools for Easter Parades and teddy bears’ picnics and this assists with a smooth transition into school life for our children. This is alongside  the highly detailed, informative transition reports that we compile, combined with the visits to our setting by their class teachers that we also organise.

We adore exploring the local environment and no doubt you will have seen us all around the village and given us a wave! The most popular places to visit with our children include the train station (who doesn’t LOVE a choo choo?!), feeding the quack quacks (ducks) at the canal, whizzing on the bus to Rothwell park, or visiting the library.

These trips out are all linked to our planning and stem from the children’s current interests and fascinations.  They culminate in our School Leavers’ trip and this is the ultimate in day visits and previous ones have taken us on adventures to Eureka, the ‘Dino Jaws’ exhibition at the Royal Armouries and to the Railway Museum at York…a recent favourite has been the lovely, local Swithen’s farm.

With both of the managers being qualified teachers (and also having an Early Years Teacher and two staff members with Foundation Degrees on the team) we have built strong relationships with schools and other professionals (speech therapists, the complex needs team, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, physiotherapists etc) as we are so tuned into our children and their needs and their ages/stages of development and this enables us to identify any specific needs early on and then put in place the required support mechanism for our children (and their families) to ensure their continued progression and development.

All of the above, and other ways too numerous to mention, help to foster a strong culture of trust between our staff, our parents and our children and we hope that when you come to visit us  this will be evident from the moment you step through our front door….

By far the most important way to find out whether a setting is right for you and your child is to visit all local nursery providers nearby and ‘go with your gut’ as what you see, feel and experience will give you an insight into whether they are the right place for you and your unique child.

Take a look at our most recent reviews in the tab at the top of the page! Please feel free to drop in anytime to see if our unique Jolly family is the right place for you…
