Our interests grow and grow….

????????????????????

…..and lead to an exciting adventure!

Free-Flow are currently obsessed with growing things after planting their sunflower ???? seeds at nursery a few weeks ago. We can’t wait to see how these sunflowers continue to grow when they are planted in their gardens at home (we are hoping for lots of lovely photos in the future which we can share with all our friends ♥️)

At the same time that they planted their sunflower seeds and were ever-so-slightly obsessed with planting seeds they noticed the seeds in the Honeydew melon when it was being prepared for them all at snack time…. Would a melon seed grow they wondered?!?!

So they popped a few seeds into some soil in a couple of spare pots and a couple of weeks later the seedlings had grown! This then led on to Kirstan, Emily and Laura’s room’s next adventure…

The seedlings needed potting on, but they also needed to be protected from the weather; as it can still get a bit chilly overnight, so Kirstan had a brainwave and asked if they could go into Tracey’s greenhouse to continue to grow…

Later that day the room went on a little walk around Woodlesford (as they often do!) but this time the destination was…. Tracey’s garden!!

The children appeared at the side gate and had soon spotted the greenhouse and they helped to re-pot the melon seeds and they placed them into the greenhouse after carefully watering them.

Before potting Tracey carefully separated the seedlings after encouraging the children to look closely at the roots and shoots that could be seen and they talked together about how long they would take to grow and they are now hoping that Tracey will be returning a melon or two for them to eat in the near future… Tracey will be keeping them all updated with photos of how they are growing and progressing in her greenhouse and garden too in the meantime.

Before leaving Tracey’s garden the children looked at the different flowers and they also explored the herbs that were growing and they carefully rubbed the leaves and smelt oregano, mint, thyme and lavender too!

They also talked about watering the plants and the children looked at the water butts Tracey had and she explained how the water runs off the roof, down the drainpipe and fills one butt and then the other and how this can then be used to give all the plants a drink ♥️

Our children love a walk around our lovely local area, but this destination was certainly a first! (Although on the way back they went to an old favourite, via the station, as you know we are all obsessed with trains here at Jollies!! ????????????????????)

There’s always method in our madness here at Jollies and following our children’s interests is an amazing part of our job! We can certainly say that we had some very motivated, excited children fascinated with finding out more about the growing process and filled with awe and wonder all sparked by the tiniest of seeds!!!!

Watch this space for awesome sunflowers and melons….. ???????????? ….. and maybe a Jolly garden centre coming our children’s way?!?!?! xxxx
